What: Every year the World Affairs council hosts a Global Citizen Essay Contest, where students grades 3-12 from all over the state are invited to submit an essay that answers a given question. This year, students responded to the question: “If you were a foreign news correspondent, where would you like to be assigned? What story would you cover and how would you gather the necessary information? Why do you think this is an important story to tell?” Over 350 students submitted well-thought out essays and judges selected the top three essays in each age category. Our World Educator Award will be awarded to a teacher who has gone above and beyond to encourage students to think about global issues, both in and out of the classroom. We are also very excited to announce that the keynote speaker for the event will be King 5 News anchor Margaret Larson! Margaret will share her experience as a broadcast journalist and foreign correspondent and highlight the importance of an informed and engaged global citizenry.
