WSCSS 2015 Fall Conference: From Conflict to Collaboration

As social studies teachers we help students understand their world and become active, capable citizens. The world today—Syria and Baltimore, Ukraine and Myanmar—needs future leaders who understand the roots of conflict and who have the skills to collaborate with others on promoting peace.
The Washington State Council for the Social Studies welcomes proposals for 70 minute workshops that address one of the following conference strands:
Resolving Conflict, Promoting Peace—Consider leading a session rich in content on a specific case study or a session featuring a role play or project based learning unit centered on resolving an historical conflict.
Collaborating and Acting—Highlight collaboration with the global or local community through workshops focusing on, for example, simulations of international cooperation or civic action projects.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration—The social studies play a major part in promoting literacy among our future citizenry. We welcome proposals on how to teach reading and writing, especially lessons with explicit connections to the Common Core State Standards.
