The Washington State Council for the Social Studies is pleased to announce that it has named Patty Shelton, Social Studies Curriculum Director for the Bellevue School District as its 2015-2016 Teacher of the Year Award Recipient.
Shelton is being recognized by the Council as a leader in social studies who has made lasting and substantive contributions to the discipline at both the local and state levels.
Shelton’s efforts have been essential in aligning the Bellevue School District’s social studies curriculum to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and the College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) framework. Shelton has also reached out to other educators to help ensure that the district’s curriculum is aligned to enhance the education of each student in her district.
Shelton has been an instrumental part of the WSCSS by sharing her knowledge and expertise with countless educators from across the state at numerous conferences and workshops. Her commitment to students and teachers has been unflagging, and she has demonstrated excellence and dedication to education and the professional development of teachers.

Ms. Shelton was given the Teacher of the Year Award at the WSCSS 2016 Chelan Conference on March 12th.
