Legacy Washington, a program of the Office of the Secretary of State, is sponsoring an art, writing and film contest for 6-12th grade students in Washington State. We invite educators to participate in this special opportunity and share with their classrooms. The contest is part of the Who are we? project, and encourages young people to explore the question of who they are and who they hope to become. This exploration and analysis can be unveiled in multiple creative formats including writings, film projects or 2-dimensional art.
What is Who Are We?
Who are we? is an historical project that documents the lives of a diverse group of Washingtonians. It includes a series of online profiles and an interactive exhibit opening August 25 inside the Washington State Capitol Building.
Who can participate?
Washington State students in grades 6-12.
When does the contest start and how long does it run?
The contest runs from September 7 to November 30 of 2016.
Why should students participate?
Winners will be invited to a ceremony in the Secretary of State’s Office where they will be presented with a special certificate and a gift card. Winning pieces will also be posted on the Secretary of State’s website, featured in SOS publications and appear alongside the Who are We? exhibit.
