This full day session will focus on creative civic engagement strategies for community partnerships and youth programs. How can non profits leverage the creative strategies of artists, and how can artists support the strategic goals of a non profit, in authentic and sustainable partnerships and program planning?

We'll reference historic civic applications of pedagogy theatre of the oppressed, the work Paulo Friere and Augusto Boal, while looking at contemporary applications coming out of the Center for Performance and Civic Practice and Goodman Theatre.

Previous attendees of creative civic engagement strategies sessions have ranged from public health officials to poets to interested community members to college students, as this broad approach to creative change making allows non-arts partners to practice an artistic approach to civic engagement and envision it in their own setting.
