In January, Co-Presidents Tony Jonas and Carinna Tarvin will be representing the WSCSS at a summit on civic education that will be hosted by the Washington Council on Public Legal Education, which is co-chaired by Court of Appeals Judge Marlin Appelwick and former Superintendent of Public Instruction Judith Billings.
Washington Supreme Court Chief Justice Barbara Madsen is co-convening the summit with U.S. District Court Chief Judge Ricardo Martinez, Governor Jay Inslee, Superintendent of Public Instruction Randy Dorn, Secretary of State Kim Wyman, and Attorney General Bob Ferguson.
Margaret Fisher, whose sessions at WSCSS conferences are always well-attended and reviewed, is leading the initiative, and she has advocated for teacher voices to be at the table.
