Welcome New WSCSS Board Members!

The Washington State Council for the Social Studies is pleased to announce that it has elected new board members and a vice-president at its annual retreat in Chelan.

Jennifer Ligot of the Northshore School District and Sarah Treworgy of the Edmonds school district were re-elected, and, along with newly elected board member Suz Clark-Bennett of the Stevenson-Carson School District will serve a two year term ending in 2019.

Bradley Liebrecht of the West Valley School District (Yakima) was elected to fill a one-year term as vice-president. The position had been vacant for the past year and Liebrecht’s term will end in 2018.

The Washington State Council for the Social Studies is a nonprofit/volunteer organization led by Social Studies teachers throughout Washington State. The WSCSS aims to be the premier resource for connecting Washington's Social Studies educators to high quality professional development, developing professional relationships, and advocating for the advancement and funding of the Social Studies in Washington State.

The board and executive officers are responsible for the organization’s three annual professional development conferences and advocating for the social studies in Olympia as well as representing Washington State regionally and nationally in various educational organizations. Board members and Executives are elected for two-year terms on a staggered schedule. 

The next WSCSS teacher professional development training will be offered at Edmonds-Woodway High School in Edmonds, WA in early October.
